BAGHDAD, April 24 (KUNA) -- Iraqi borders patrol guards clashed with an
armed group on the Syrian side of the borders and were trying to cross but
were forced to retreat back, an Iraqi Interior Ministry statement said on
Tuesday.
The statement said that a unit of the Iraqi border patrol clashed with an
armed group which attempted to infiltrate into Iraq in an illegal fashion.
The statement noted the clashes occurred in a area near Al-Alam Police
station in the Nineveh province north of Iraq.
Iraqi forces were able to force the group to retreat back into Syrian
territories, the statement noted, adding no human casualties were reported.
In recent days, the Iraqi government government boosted security presence
on the borders in attempt to minimize the number of infiltrations of armed
fighters and weapons. (end)
