ROME, March 26 (KUNA) -- Italian Prime Minister Mario Monti threatened
Monday his government could resign if it failed to put structural reforms
place.
The remark came amid growing criticisms over a labor market reform plan
that is opposed by the parliamentary majority.
Speaking to reporters accompanying him in his visit to Seoul, South Korea,
he brandished that his government would quit unless the country's social and
political forces were ready for what he called something good for the nation.
Monti, who is leading a technocrat government, said he agreed to lead the
government in order to push forward economic reforms in the country.
It is the first time for Monti to threaten resignation since he took over
as head of an economic salvation government.
It came amid looming strikes and demonstrations by trade unions in protest
of a reform package. (end)
