VERONA, Italy, March 17 (KUNA) -- The eminent Saudi poet Abdul Aziz Khojeh
has been honored at the Italian city of Verona during ceremonies marking the
World Poetry Day.
At a special ceremony, held late on Thursday, a representative of the city
mayor, granted Khojeh, also the Minister of Information and Culture, the
golden medal, which was received on his behalf by the prominent poet, Abdul
Aziz Al-Babtain.
The representative of the mayor, in a statement, welcomed the guests,
namely the famous poet Al-Babtain, Dr. George Pscua, Chairman of the World
Poetry Academy.
For his part, the honorary chairman of the academy, professor Mohammad
Nader Aziza, said in a statement on the occasion that the honoring of Khojeh
affirmed significance of the Arabs' presence at such international gatherings.
He declared that the academy, in coordination with Al-Babtain foundation,
pondered possibility to create an international award for poetry, after the
name of the Arab poet, Ibn Hamdees.
Moreover, Aziza praised Al-Babtain foundation's role in boosting global
cultural dialogue and interaction.
The international event is due to be marked with various activities, such
as poetry recitation, displays of books and movie shows. (end)
