GENEVA, Feb 28 (KUNA) -- Kuwait has called for the use of all possible
means to stop the humanitarian disaster in Syria and to help improve the
humanitarian situation of the Syrian people.
Permanent Representative of Kuwait to the United Nations in Geneva
Ambassador Dharar Razzouqi said in a speech, before a panel dedicated for the
discussion of the Syrian Human Rights, that Kuwait would like to join all
efforts to bring emergency humanitarian aid to Syria.
He stressed that Kuwait considers the importance of exerting all efforts to
find a peaceful solution on the basis of the Arab initiative.
At the same time, he pointed out that the International Commission of
Inquiry for Syria in its report confirmed the occurrence of persistent,
widespread and systematic human rights abuse and the use of force against
civilians, saying that the Syrian authorities failed to protect its citizens.
He quoted from the committee report a credible evidence that determines
senior officials in the Syrian armed forces who have ordered their
subordinates to shoot unarmed protestors and kill the soldiers who refuse to
obey such orders and arrest people randomly in addition to mistreatment of
detainees and attacking civilian neighborhoods with tank fire and machine guns
randomly.
He explained that the human rights situation in Syria has deteriorated
significantly since November 2011 and "what has been mentioned in the report
is obvious to us every day through various media and no single party can hide."
He expressed strong condemnation of the State of Kuwait for the violations
carried out by the Syrian authorities and the ongoing and extensive human
rights abuses.
Razzouqi added that "the authorities in Syria, alas, rejected all
initiatives, including the Arab Plan of Action, which was aimed at a
transitional stage where a government of national unity could have been formed
including all components of the Syrian people inorder to move Syria to
safety". (end)
