BAGHDAD, Feb 16 (KUNA) -- Iraqi Human Rights Ministry unveiled Thursday the
discovery of the remains of 178 Iraqi and Iranian soldiers who were killed in
Basra during the Iraq-Iran war in 1980s.
In a press statement, the Ministry said specialists from the Department of
Prisoners and Missing Persons in cooperation with Iranian team have found the
remains of 178 soldiers at a site at the city of Al-Faw in the southern
province of Basra
These include 159 Iraqi soldiers and 19 Iranians.
Due to its strategic location, Al-Faw was the scene of bloodiest and
biggest battles of the first Gulf War in which thousands of Iraqis and Iranian
forces were killed. (end)
