BERLIN, Feb 10 (KUNA) -- German Chancellor Angela Merkel urged tighter
sanctions on Tehran, amid its controversial nuclear program.
She told German newspaper, Passauer Neue Presse, that her country is
anxious as a result of Iran's actions and that this calls for further
sanctions from the European Union.
She reiterated her country's support of Israel, adding that these nuclear
ambitions do not only threaten Tel Aviv but the world as a whole.
She also regretted Russia and China's decision to veto against further
international sanctions on Tehran.
The European Union had at the end of January, last year, put in place
sanctions to ban the import of Iranian crude and freeze the assets of the
Iranian Central Bank. (end)
