CAIRO, Feb 6 (KUNA) -- The Arab League confirmed on Monday that the
scheduled meeting of the Arab League ministerial meeting at the level of
foreign ministers devoted to discuss the situation in Syria will be held next
Sunday instead of Saturday, as well as a meeting of the Arab Peace Initiative
Committee.
Deputy Secretary-General Ambassador Ahmad Bin Hilli said in a statement
that the League received a note from the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) states
requesting postponement of the two meetings for 24 hours.
Bin Hilli said that the request came as the six GCC states would be meeting
in Riyadh on Saturday to discuss developments in Syria and to coordinate their
positions.
He stressed at the same time insistence of the Arab League to complete the
implementation of the Arab initiative to solve the crisis in Syria in order to
achieve the aspirations of the Syrian people, stop the bloodshed, cycle of
killings, reciprocal violence, as well as preventing foreign interference in
Syrian territory.
He stated that the situation in Syria will undergo a comprehensive
assessment during the foreign ministerial meeting next Sunday, as the
ministers would resort to all alternatives available to stop more bloodshed
and violence and to implement the Arab peace initiative to help Syria get out
of the current impasse.
He said there were Arab and international efforts aimed to implement the
Arab initiative, which has enjoyed Arab and international praise and support.
