CAIRO, Jan 30 (KUNA) -- An earthquake measuring 4.8 degrees on the Richter
Scale hit Egypt's Red Sea area Monday evening.
The shock hit the area lying between northeast Hurghada and southwest Sharm
El-Sheikh, Chief of the National Research Institute of Astronomy and
Geophysics (NRIAG) Hatem Ouda said.
The tremor was felt by the residents of Hurghada and Sharm El-Sheikh, he
said.
The epicenter of the earthquake was 5.1 km under the sea, he added.
A devastating quake shocked Egypt in 1992, killing over 1,000 people and
destroying many houses and buildings. (end)
