IRBIL, July 27 (KUNA) -- One Iraqi soldier was killed and six others injured on Friday in two separate incidents in Kirkuk, north of Iraq.
Unknown militants in a car opened fire on an Iraqi army checkpoint southwestern Kiruk, leaving one soldier dead, an Iraqi police source told Kuwait News Agency (KUNA).
Six people were also wounded in a bomb explosion in Kirkuk, the source said.
Meanwhile, a Mosul police source said police patrols had found five corpses of female workers who were abducted while returning home from work in the same city on Thursday, it added.
Earlier on the day, Clashes between Shia militiamen and a joint US-Iraqi force have left nine people dead in an Iraqi holy city.
Around 23 people were wounded in the fighting in Kerbala as US and Iraqi troops carried out a pre-dawn raid.
Shooting began as the US-Iraqi force moved in to arrest figures from the Mehdi Army, which is loyal to the radical cleric Moqtada Sadr. (end) sbr.mt KUNA 272013 Jul 07NNNN
