KUWAIT, Oct 10 (KUNA) -- Islamic civilization has produced scientific breakthroughs that can be attributed to the faith's humane image, Secretary General of the National Council for Culture, Art and Letters (NCCAL) Ali Al-Yoha said on Monday.
Speaking at a conference entitled, "Sciences in Islamic Civilization," Al-Yoha noted that a number of scientists of various faiths have helped build this edifice of scientific knowledge.
Moreover, he noted that the conference constitutes a part of planned cultural and scientific activities that will showcase how significant science is "to our cultural lives." Speaking on the conference, he said that the title alone is testament to the scientific and intellectual contributions churned out by the Islamic civilization for centuries. "Our rich scientific history is reflected well in our lives," Al-Yoha added.
Meanwhile, Dr. Majdi Abdulhafeth, one of many academicians who took part in the conference, said that the event "allows us to reflect on the indelible mark left by those who came before us." He also spoke of Arab and Muslim scientists' devotion to their works, which helped inspire intellectuals and philosophers all across the globe.
Head of the conference's organizing committee Dr. Abdullah Al-Jasmi said that Islamic contributions to the scientific world has often been overlooked, adding that all issues discussed in the conference will be incorporated into a book to be published soon.
The two-day conference, which ends Wednesday, features a bevy of scientists and philosophers who will engage in discussions that run the gamut from scientific ideologies to development and advancement. (end) ysa.nam
