U.S drone strike kills 11 rebels in Afghanistan

ISLAMABAD, June 11 (KUNA) -- At least 11 Taliban insurgents were killed as a US-led drone strike targeted a vehicle in Afghanistan's central Logar province, said officials on Saturday.
The provincial governor's spokesman, Salim Saleh, in a statement said that the drone targeted a vehicle carrying Taliban militants in Spandus area between Azara and Hesarak districts of the province. He added that 11 militants onboard the vehicle were killed and the vehicle and weapons were destroyed. Afghan Ministry of Defense also confirmed the incident.
Meanwhile, a member of the provincial council from Azra district, Abdul Wakil, told media that the dead included three civilians. He said there were eight militants and three civilians on the vehicle and all of them were killed.
The strike came at a time when U.S and foreign forces have intensified their air strikes across Afghanistan following the launch of annual warm weather offensive by Taliban rebels against the security forces. (end) sbk.rk
