JEDDAH, June 22 (KUNA) -- The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) welcomed Monday the signature on 20th June 2015 in Bamako of the Agreement for Peace and Reconciliation by the Coordination Movements of Azawad (CMA).
In a press statement, the OIC Secretary General Iyad Ameen Madani commended the Algerian-led international mediation for their successful endeavors to bring on board the CMA as an important party in the Algiers peace process.
With CMA's signing of the agreement, Mali is firmly on the road to durable peace, stability and sustainable development, Madani noted.
The Platform coalition and the Government of Mali have already signed the agreement on 15th May 2015.
The OIC chief urged the parties to fully commit to its faithful implementation of the agreement including the respect of the ceasefire.
He then reiterated the determination of the OIC as a member of the international mediation team to support the Malian parties in the critical phase of the implementation of the agreement.
The Special Envoy of the Secretary General for Mali and the Sahel, Djibril Bassole represented the OIC at the occasion which was attended by other members of the mediation. (end)
