RAMALLAH, Feb 1 (KUNA) -- President Mahmoud Abbas said on Wednesday
Palestine was ready to head back to the negotiating table, providing Israel
was ready to accept a two-state solution and a halt of settlement construction.
The Netanyahu government's adamancy and refusal to acknowledge Palestinian
borders and halt settlement construction are what opposed international
attempts to revive the peace process and direct negotiations, he said, during
a meeting with German Foreign Minister Guido Westerwelle.
The president hailed Germany's decision to raise the Palestinian diplomatic
representation on its lands to the status of mission and for its donation to
Palestinians worth USD 11 million, through UNRWA.
Abbas is later expected to meet UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon, who aims
to convince both sides of the Middle East conflict to re-engage in peace
talks. (end)
