Lebanese Joseph Aoun receives the World Bank Group (WBG) Executive Director Abdulaziz Al Mulla
BEIRUT, Nov 7 (KUNA) -- Lebanese Joseph Aoun on Friday emphasized necessity that the World Bank remain on Lebanon's side in this delicate period and continue constructive cooperation with Beirut to aid the nation on the recovery path.
The president made the statement as he welcomed at the Presidential Baabda Palace the World Bank Group (WBG) Executive Director Abdulaziz Al Mulla, at the head of a delegation of members of the WB's Board of Directors.
According to the official statement, he praised the WB's approach of linking up financial aid to reforms for boosting accountability, affirming that Lebanon is committed to reforms despite enormous challenges.
The President of the Republic thanked the delegation for "the continuous support that the World Bank provides to Lebanon," and presented the progress achieved so far in terms of the ongoing reforms, particularly with regard to strengthening governance and cooperation with the International Monetary Fund to rebuild confidence in the countryآ’s financial sector and attract investments.
President Aoun also pointed out that "Lebanon is nowadays focusing all its attention on reforming the judicial system because no reforms can be implemented without a strong and effective judicial system."
He stressed "the importance of the World Bank remaining by Lebanon's side during this critical phase and continuing constructive cooperation to support the nation's recovery and sustainable growth." (end)
