BRUSSELS, Oct 27 (KUNA) -- The European Union condemned on Monday the attack carried out by the Israeli occupation against a detachment of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) on Sunday.
It described the Israeli occupation assault as "the latest in a series of similar incidents in recent weeks," and called on the occupation to fully withdraw from Lebanese territory.
EU Spokesperson Anwar Al Anouni said in a press release that the EU "recalls that the safety and security of UN personnel and premises must be ensured in accordance with international law and UN Security Council Resolution 1701," which affirms respect for Lebanon's sovereignty and territorial integrity.
The EU reiterated its call on all parties to fully respect the ceasefire of 26 November 2024, warning that any violation poses a serious threat to stability in southern Lebanon and the wider region.
It also called on the Israeli occupation to withdraw completely from all Lebanese territory, reaffirming its commitment to supporting Lebanon's unity and stability, as well as the mandate of UNIFIL in maintaining peace and implementing relevant UN resolutions. (end)
