KHARTOUM, Oct 1 -- Sudan's Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation announced that Nile water levels have reached flood stages in six states in the county, warning of further rises this week.
Sudan's authorities said on Tuesday that floodwaters have already breached earthen barriers in several areas, with water entering residential neighborhoods. The affected states include Blue Nile, Sennar, Gazira, Khartoum, River Nile, and White Nile.
Water levels at several monitoring stations have surpassed or is almost flooding thresholds. The ministry urged residents living along the Nile to take precautions to protect their lives and property.
Sudan faces annual floods in August and September that often claim lives and damage homes and farmland, a situation worsened by weakened infrastructure amid the ongoing conflict. (end)
