Syria condemns Israeli occupation incursion in Damascus, urges UN to take action

AMMAN, Aug 25 (KUNA) -- Syria condemned on Monday what it described as an incursion by Israeli occupation forces into the Beit Jinn area in the countryside of Damascus, calling on the United Nations to take urgent and decisive steps to deter further aggressive actions by the occupying authorities.
In a statement carried by the Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA), the Syrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that the Israeli occupation's incursion involved a force consisting of 11 military vehicles and approximately 60 soldiers, who seized control of Tal Bat Al-Warda, located at the foothills of Mount Hermon.
The ministry described the move as a blatant violation of Syrian sovereignty and territorial integrity, and reflects the aggressive policies of the occupation authorities and their blatant disregard for international law and relevant UN resolutions.
The ministry warned that continued violations of this nature undermine efforts to restore stability and escalate regional tensions, and renewed its call on the UN and the UN Security Council to fulfill their legal and moral responsibilities by taking immediate and effective measures to hold the occupation authorities accountable and to deter further aggression, in accordance with international law and in protection of Syria's sovereignty and territorial integrity.
Earlier on Monday, Israeli forces reportedly entered several areas in the rural regions of Damascus and Al-Quneitra, taking control of Tal Bat Al-Warda, and gunfire was reported in the direction of local residents, though no injuries were reported. (end) amn.dss
