Seven killed in building collapse in India

NEW DELHI, July 7 (KUNA) -- At least seven Indians were killed and several injured in collapse of a residential building in Surat city of western Indian state of Gujarat, the police said. The Press Trust of India said quoting local police that seven bodies were recovered from the rubble today after the six-storey building located at Pal area of Surat collapsed last evening.
The police said teams of National Disaster Response Force and the State Disaster Response Force, police personnel and firemen were involved in the rescue operation. One body was recovered last night while six more were recovered today, the police said. Local authorities had earlier issued notice to the building owner asking to vacate due to its dilapidated condition. The residents of the building had also asked the landlord to carry out repair works but he refused to do so, the police said. (end) atk.rk
