BERLIN, July 1 (KUNA) -- French President Emmanuel Macron decided to cancel his visit to Germany, originally slated for tomorrow, the German presidential palace announced on Saturday.
German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier spoke with President Macron by phone to discuss the current rioting in France, according to a statement from Bellevue Palace in Berlin.
During the conversation, Steinmeier expressed regret over, and understanding of, Macron's decision.
The visit is expected to be rescheduled for another date later on.
Unrest has been spreading from Nanterre suburb of Paris to other parts in France since Nahel M., a 17-year old delivery driver of Algerian descent, was shot dead by a policeman at checkpoint on of Algerian descent.
Earlier today, the French Ministry of Interior said 1,330 protesters have been arrested during overnight rioting. (end)
