Germany decries deployment of Russian nuclear weapons in Belarus

BERLIN, May 26 (KUNA) -- The German Government on Friday decried a declaration by Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko regarding deployment of Russian nuclear tactical arms on his country's territories.
The deputy spokesperson of the German Government, Wolfgang Bushner, said at a news conference that Lukasheno's declaration was an explicit bid to intimidate Europe.
The German Government tersely condemns such statements, the deputy spokesperson said, also noting that the Republic of Belarus should adhere to international treaties to keep the country free of nuclear weapons.
He also lashed out at Russia for breaching pledges not to deploy such arms beyond the Russian borders.
The Belarussian president announced Thursday that his country would begin implementing an agreement signed in March, stipulating that the nuclear weapons would be deployed on the Belarussian territories. (end) anj.rk
