EU, China agree to work for peace in Ukraine

BRUSSELS, May 25 (KUNA) -- The European Union and China, Thursday, agreed to continue working towards a sustainable peace in Ukraine.
This was announced by the EU's diplomatic service, known as European External Action Service (EEAS), in a statement following a meeting between the Deputy Secretary-General for Political Affairs and Political Director of the EEAS, Enrique Mora, and the Special Envoy of the Chinese Government for Eurasian Affairs, Li Hui, in Brussels today, Mora welcomed Li's visit to Europe, especially to Kyiv, and China's recent engagement with Ukraine, including at Leaders' level, although it comes more than one year after the start of the war in Ukraine, noted the statement.
The two sides discussed the Ukraine war and ways to promote a just and sustainable peace.
The EU official stressed that restoring a just and lasting peace in Ukraine in accordance with international law is of vital importance for the EU. He underlined that any meaningful way to end Russia's war against Ukraine must be consistent with the UN Charter in its entirety. (end) nk.gta
