BEIRUT, March 10 (KUNA) -- Kuwait Embassy in Cyprus held Friday a reception marking the 62nd and 32nd anniversaries of the National Day and the Liberation Day respectively.
The reception featured a large number of officials, and political, religious and economic dignitaries in Cyprus.
Ambassador to Cyprus Abdullah Al-Kharafi stressed, in a speech, the deep-rooted and distinguished friendly relations between Kuwait and Cyprus over decades, the embassy said in a statement.
He expressed his sincere appreciation to the Cypriot government for fruitful cooperation and efforts made to upgrade the level of the ties between the two countries, it added.
Ambassador Al-Kharafi pointed to the Cypriot government's rapid response to the necessary support of the Kuwaiti air bridge for humanitarian aid offered to the Turkish areas affected by the recent earthquake.
The ambassador extended sincere condolences and sympathy of Kuwait's government and people to the families of the victims in Turkey and Syria, and those in Cyprus and Greece that lost their relatives in the train accident. The Kuwaiti Ambassador conveyed sincere congratulations of Kuwait's government and people to the new Cypriot President Nikos Christodoulides and members of his new government, wishing him success.
He renewed Kuwait's stance supporting Cyprus' fair issues and common desire for further cooperation between the two countries' governments, it noted.
For his part, representative of the new Cypriot government, Minister of Energy, Trade and Industry George Papanastasiou voiced the Cypriot President's congratulations to His Highness the Amir Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, and the State of Kuwait and its people, wishing continued prosperity and stability for Kuwait and its people.
He pointed to the development of the bilateral ties and efforts made to enhance them in many fields, including economy and education, according to the statement.
Papanastasiou lauded Kuwait's exemplary and key role in backing peace and stability efforts in the region, including its endeavors on combating terrorism, resolving the conflicts and backing international peace in the region.
He stressed his country's support to Kuwait to help its citizens get the 'Schengen' visa. (end) ayb.maa.hm
