Egypt expresses solidarity with quake-hit Syria

CAIRO, Feb 7 (KUNA) -- Egyptian President Abdelfattah Al-Sisi affirmed on Tuesday, his country's solidarity with Syria and its people over the devastating earthquake, referring to his directives to provide all possible aid and relief assistance to Syria.
The remarks were made during a telephone call between Al-Sisi and Syrian President Bashar Al-Assad, said a spokesman for the Presidency of the Republic, Ahmad Fahmy.
Fahmy noted that the Egyptian leader expressed sincere condolences for the victims of the devastating earthquake, wishing at the same time a speedy recovery for the injured.
For his part, President al-Assad expressed his gratitude for this "gracious gesture," affirming his country's pride in the "historic and fraternal" relations that bind the two countries and peoples.
An earthquake measuring 7.7 on the Richter scale struck Turkey and Syria at dawn yesterday, followed by another earthquake with a magnitude of 7.6, leaving huge losses of lives and property in the two countries. (end) rg.mb
