AMMAN, Jan 31 (KUNA) -- Kuwaiti and Arab media personnel underscored the necessity of media literacy to cope with rapidly evolving societies created by the Information Technology revolution.
This came on the sideline of the Arab Media Forum organized by the media department within the League of Arab States, in partnership with the Jordanian Ministry of government communication and the Arab Satellite Broadcasting Organization.
Chief of Kuwaiti journalists union Dr. Zuhair Al-Abbad when speaking to KUNA called for the application of media theories relating to societal responsibilities and work ethic.
Media personnel Mohammad Al-Shuhri spoke to KUNA about the challenges facing Arab media underlining the importance of coping with the latest developments in the field and adopting social media techniques to attract youth to educational content.
He cautioned that it is impossible to monitor the influx of data within social media, which requires the utilization of modern techniques and legislation to manage the dangerous effect of unsuitable content.
Naif Arab University for Security Sciences (NAUSS) faculty member Dr. Sulaiman Al-Eidi stressed to KUNA the necessity of protecting society from the danger of low media content that could harm emerging generations.
He also added that the Arab League carries the responsibility of educating, through media, the upcoming generations.
UAE Federal National Council member, Dirar Al-Falasi, told KUNA that the GCC's unified decision is important in dealing with low media content, stressing the importance of the experience that the GCC had with Netflix in this regard.
He also described social media as a dangerous weapon that cannot be controlled, but followers can be directed towards scientific and cultural content, adding that UAE holds any social media influencers accountable for sharing any low media content.
The forum, which is held in Jordan until next Tuesday, discusses issues of media, sustainable development, media and informatics education, and the dangers of electronic games, and will hold the Arab Committee for Electronic Media 8th meeting. (end)
