ALGIERS, Jan 27 (KUNA) -- The lingering Russian-Ukraine war has political, economic and social ramifications and effects on Muslim countries, warned a Kuwaiti member of parliament on Friday.
Politically, this war poses a threat to some Muslim countries which are near the flashpoints of the conflict, which threatens to spill over into other regions, Kuwaiti MP Shuaib Shaaban said during an Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) committee meeting.
He expected that the world order could change due to the ongoing war, especially if major countries directly join the conflict, warning that it has triggered off political instability in some Muslim countries through demonstrations and protests against worsening economic conditions.
Economically, the Russia-Ukraine war has caused remarkable rises in the prices of basic commodities, primarily energy and food, pushing inflation rates to skyrocket in many countries, he remarked.
The Kuwaiti MP sounded the alarm about the negative effects of this conflict on world and Muslim countries amid economic and financial sanctions imposed by western countries on Russia, given that many countries heavily rely upon food imports from Russia and Ukraine.
Socially, he cautioned that the tourist sector of some Muslim countries has been hard hit since the outbreak of the Russia-Ukraine war, causing social reflections on Muslim countries, including rising poverty, famine and joblessness. (end) mr.mt
