Lebanese people block roads in several areas

BEIRUT, Jan 25 (KUNA) -- A number of Lebanese people blocked on Wednesday roads in several areas around the country to protest against the deteriorating economic and living conditions.
The official news agency (the National News Agency, NNA) reported that Protesters have blocked the road in front of the Central Bank in Hamra shopping district, in objection to the soaring USD exchange rate.
The protests have led to traffic jam in a number of streets in the capital.
NAA added that citizens have blocked Al-Beddawi-Tripoli highway, in northern Lebanon, in both directions with their trucks and cars in protest against the dire livelihood conditions and the drastic devaluation of the Lebanese pound.
The Traffic Management Center reported that the Internal Security Forces indicated that protesters blocked the road at the entrance to Tyre city in the south with tires and garbage bins in protest against the ailing economy. US dollar exchange rate exceeded 56,000 Lebanese pounds per one USD, which was reflected in an increase in the prices of fuel, gas and food products. (end) kbs.ahm
