KUWAIT, Dec 4 (KUNA) -- After a year from surviving harrowing accident, Dhari Al-Hamlan, 11, went through a successful pancreatectomy surgery under the supervision of competent Kuwaiti medical staff at Ibn Sina hospital.
Al-Hamlan had been involved in a "beach buggy" accident, which in turn had affected the pancreas, requiring the removal of parts of the organ.
Speaking of his ordeal to KUNA, Dhari Al-Hamlan said that at first, did not understand the situation until a squadron of medical staff rushed to his aid upon arriving at the hospital.
"It felt as if I was in a deep well," recounted Al-Hamlan who commended the staff post-accident for their efforts to calm him down so that they could attend to his treatment.
On his operation, Al-Hamlan said that he was anxious at first, but gradually he was put to ease due to the care provided by Ibn Sina professionals and the medical team tasked with his operation.
Khaled Al-Hamlan, Dhari's father, recounted the incident that almost took the life of his son, saying that his son had suffered immensely since the incident occurred.
The nine-hour operation felt like years, he indicated, adding that he was relieved to know that the operation was a success.
Head of pediatric surgery at Ibn Sina Hospital Dr. Esmaeel Taqi affirmed that Dhari's case was a tricky one due to several problems including acute inflammation in the abdominal cavity and small intestine.
A delicate operation was carried out in the pancreas region to extract 50 percent of the damaged organ, added Dr. Taqi.
He went on saying that the operation was a success and noted that Dhari had made a full recovery and now would need to carry out routine checkups every now and then to make sure that his health was in check. (end) has.gta
