USGS: 7.2 earthquake strikes Haiti

WASHINGTON, Aug 14 (KUNA) -- A 7.2 magnitude struck Haiti, Saturday, with "high casualties" being most probable, said the US Geological Survey (USGS).
The USGS indicated, "Red alert for shaking-related fatalities. High casualties are probable." "The disaster is likely widespread," it added. "Significant damage is likely." The earthquake was 12 kilometers northeast of Saint-Louis du Sud and 13 kilometers deep, the USGS reported.
In 2010, a 7.0 magnitude earthquake hit Haiti that killed over 200,000 people.
While Haiti is dealing with the consequences of the earthquake, CNN Meteorologist Haley Brink reported that Haiti is in the "cone of Tropical Storm Grace and the storm could have an impact on the area from Monday into Tuesday." (end) si.gta
