DAMASCUS, Nov 1 (KUNA) -- The Syrian response to the recent US attack in
Abu-Kamal area has entered a new phase according to an un-official Syrian
media website dubbed "Champress."
The Syrian news site says the new phase includes minimizing the number of
Syrian border soldiers patrolling the borders, presumably with Iraq.
According to locals close to the Syrian border town who were interviewed by
Champress, they said that such a move would directly impact developments in
Iraq.
On the other hand, observers said such a step would be the beginning of
Syrian actions, which Damascus said that America knows, would be painful for
the Super power.
Damascus has been contemplating a series of measures to respond to the US
border attack, among them might be the withdrawal of Syrian Ambassador Nawaf
Al-Faris, who was appointed by Syria recently to Baghdad, and the expelling of
Iraqi charge d'affaires in Damascus. (end)
