EU chief supports Pakistan''s talks with Taliban

ISLAMABAD, April 22 (KUNA) -- A day after Britain voiced its support to US-criticized Pakistans policy to hold talks with Taliban militants, EU Foreign Policy Chief Javier Solana also expressed support to the decision.
Solana arrived here on Monday night to hold talks with the new government. He met with Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi and discussed terrorism, security and economic related issues.
Later addressing a joint press conference, he said that he supported the decision hold talks with local Taliban militants but not with Al-Qaeda.
"It is up to the country to give benefit to those who want to contribute to the well-being of the country by participating in a dialogue which is under the umbrella of the Constitution of the country", he said.
"The government would want to give dialogue and reconciliation its utmost full chance", said Qureshi on the occasion. However, he added, "If we felt that spirit behind this initiative is not being met well, other options are always there". (end) amn.ajs KUNA 221835 Apr 08NNNN
