Egyptian parliament considers severing ties with EU parliament

CAIRO, Jan 16 (KUNA) -- Speaker of the People's Council Ahmad Fathi Suror said Wednesday the house would consider severing ties with the European parliament (EP) and the Euro-Med Council and their meetings because of what he considered the EP's "language of orders and superiority." The EP has prepared a draft law condemning lack of respect of human rights in Egypt.
The draft law, due to be tabled for voting tomorrow, is a flagrant interference in Egypt's internal affairs, said Suror in a statement.
Suror rejected the use of the "language of superiority" in the draft law.
The cooperation of the Egyptian People's Council with the EP is based on dialogue but the draft law was out of this context thus harming the historic ties between Egypt and Europe, said Suror. (end) bna.bs KUNA 162221 Jan 08NNNN
