GAZA, Oct 9 (KUNA) -- The hardline Palestinian Islamic movement, Hamas,
called on Arab nations on Tuesday to boycott the upcoming US-proposed
international conference for peace in the Middle East.
The group urged, in a statement, the Palestinian Authority to refrain from
taking part in the conference, due to be held in the United States, taking
into consideration fresh remarks by Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert hinting
that he was not ready to work out a full-scale peace treaty with the
Palestinians.
Hamas warned that participation in the conference in the shadow of such
intransigent language from the Israelis would be tantamount to "liquidating
the Palestinian cause."
Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas is seeking to draw up a document with
the Israelis for tackling diverse sticking issues, namely the establishment of
an independent Palestinian state, settling the plight of the refugees,
eliminating Jewish settlements, demarcating the border, water sharing and
determinig final status of the holy city of Jerusalem. (end)
