KUWAIT, Jan 28 -- 1928 -- A battle, known as Al-Rigee, took place between Kuwaiti forces led by Sheikh Ali Al-Khalifa Al-Sabah and Sheikh Ali Al-Salem Al-Sabah on one hand, and 500 fighters from the brotherhood who were led by one of Mutair Tribe elders. The battle took place at Al-Rigee wells.
1957 -- Sheikh Abdullah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah passes away at the age of 52. The late Sheikh Abdullah was head of the general security department in the 1950s.
1963 -- Amir of Kuwait Sheikh Abdullah Al-Salem Al-Sabah signs a decree over formation of Kuwait's second government, which consisted of 15 ministers. The cabinet, which included one MP, was chaired by Sheikh Sabah Al-Salem Al-Sabah and formed after the parliamentary elections.
1975 -- Amir of Kuwait Sheikh Sabah Al-Salem Al-Sabah signs a law banning illegal occupation of state lands.
2002 -- Hamed Al-Essa Organ Transplant Center ranked 1st in the Middle East and 2nd globally in transplanting kideys from brain-dead people. Seventeen in every million brain-dead people donated their kidneys in one year.
2003 -- A trading room for women opens at Kuwait stock exchange, the first in the world.
2007 -- Head of Kuwait National Guard Sheikh Salem Al-Ali Al-Sabah donated KD 100 million, of them KD 88 million for people in need and the KD 20 million for families of martyrs.
2008 -- Kuwait Institute for Scientific Research (KISR) registered a 2.7-degree earthquake at Al-Manageesh oil fields, southern Kuwait.
2014 -- Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development (KFAED) signs a KD 3.2 million loan agreement with the Maldives to fund a drinking water and sewage project.
2014 -- Qadsia SC wins His Highness the Crown Prince Football Cup after beating rival Al-Arabi SC 2-1.
2015 -- Kuwait Oil Company's CEO Hashem Hashem announces a contract to develop heavy crude oil reserves in Al-Retga oil field, northern Kuwait. This will contribute to commercial crude oil production by 60,000 barrels per day (bpd).
2015 -- UN refugee agency (UNHRC) selects Sheikha Rima Al-Sabah, spouse of Kuwait's Ambassador to the US, an Ambassador of good will in appreciation of her efforts in the service of humanitarian causes around the world.
2019 -- KFAED signs a KD five million loan agreement to provide water in three cities in Benin.
2019 -- Kuwait SC wins His Highness the Crown Prince Football Cup for the 7th time in the club's history after beating Qadsia SC 1-0. (end) ah.bs
