KUWAIT, May 27 (KUNA) -- 1964 -- A museum on Failaka Island was inaugurated by Minister of Education Sheikh Abdullah Al-Jaber Al-Sabah. It closed in 1997.
1991 -- The Public Authority for Assessment of Compensation for Damages resulting from the Iraqi Aggression was founded by a decree by late Amir Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah. The body, responsible for all aspects of the UN Compensation Commission claims by Kuwait, was an independent government body under the Cabinet's jurisdictions.
1994 -- Kuwait exports its first shipment of liquid ammonia, some 15,040 metric tons, to India through Kuwait National Petroleum Company's; the first after the liberation of Kuwait from Iraqi occupation.
2000 -- Literary figure and former diplomat Abdullah Al-Srayya passes away at the age of 66. The figure had authored plays, poetry volumes, radio and television dramas and held the post of ambassador to Mauritania and Sudan.
2003 -- Qadesia football club clinches the 41st Amir's Cup for the 10th time.
2006 -- Sheikh Mubarak Al-Duaij Al-Ibrahim Al-Sabah was assigned Chairman and Director General of Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) according to a decree issued by His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah.
2008 -- Kuwait wins best architectural design award from the Arab Towns Organisation (ATO) for the Al-Kout Fahaheel seafront project after being selected out of 13 nominations from nine Arab countries. Kuwait Municipality received the award at a ceremony in Qatar. The project consisted of 11 buildings, a mall, traditional fish, vegetable and fruit markets, restaurants, a cinema and a hotel. (end) hb
