1950 -- Sheikh Abdullah Al-Salem Al-Sabah takes helm of power after demise of Sheikh Ahmad Al-Jaber AlSabah.

1951 -- Kuwaiti Amir Sheikh Abdullah Al-Salem Al-Sabah is decorated with a high esteem award by Britain on assuming the post.

1978 -- The National Anthem is broadcast for the first time.

1980 -- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) begins broadcasting the English news service.

2003 -- The Arabian Gulf University, in Bahrain, inaugurates Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah's scholarship for microbiology and clinical immunity.

2010 -- Runner Mohammad Al-Azmi wins the gold medal in the 800 meters competition in the Asian tournament, held in Tehran.

2017 -- Atef Al-Dosari wins the gold medal, breaking the record of 10 meters shooting competition in the world para championship, hosted by the UAE. (end) gta
