KUWAIT, Feb 24 -- 1978 -- Kuwait signs an agreement for conservation of marine environment and a protocol for regional cooperation on protecting Gulf waters from oil slicks and other damage.
1980 -- A decree law on customs was issued subjecting all commodities entering Kuwait to custom tariffs.
1983 -- The new headquarters of Kuwait National Museum was inaugurated. The museum is of modern design and its architecture is in line with Arab and Islamic style.
1986 -- Kuwait endorses the International Union for Conservation of Nature and Natural Resources' charter, and joins the union in 1994.
1988 -- Fahaheel expressway was inaugurated.
1991 -- Coalition forces launch land operation for the liberation of Kuwait from occupying Iraqi forces, advancing as far as locations close to the Euphrates River. Iraqi ruler Saddam Hussein orders withdrawal of his troops from Kuwait where over 700 oil wells were torched.
1991 -- Al-Qurain battle took place between 19 young Kuwaitis and Iraqi forces, lasting for 10 hours. Twelve of the Kuwaitis fell as martyrs and seven others were not hurt.
2004 -- First Deputy Prime Minister and Interior Minister Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah inaugurates the National Security headquarters in South Surra.
2009 -- Amiri decree issued appointing Abdulaziz Al-Adsani as Audit Bureau Chief.
2015 -- His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah and His Highness the Crown Prince Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah open the Botanical Garden at Bayan Palace.
2016 -- Kuwait's Ministry of Higher Education sign a cooperation deal to share expertise in medical services and exchange teaching staff with the George Washington University. (end) gta
