KUWAIT, March 23 (KUNA) --

1921 -- Sheikh Ahmad Al-Jaber al-Mubarak Al-Sabah takes the helm of power in the country to become Kuwait's tenth ruler. During his era, oil was discovered, education and medical care were developed, the shura council, the first and second legislative assemblies were formed. His rule lasted for 29 years.
1966 -- The poet Shawki Al-Ayyoubi died at the age of 65. He was known for modern Kuwaiti poetry.
1977 -- Kuwait Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Salem Al-Sabah issues a decree-into-law approving the joining of the Convention on International Transport of Goods Under Cover of TIR Carnets (TIR Convention), a multilateral treaty that was concluded in Geneva on 14 November 1975 to simplify and harmonize the administrative formalities of international road transport. The TIR system was declared in Geneva on January 15, 1959.
1977 -- Kuwait Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Salem Al-Sabah issues a decree-into-law founding Kuwait Finance House at a capital of KD ten million (approx. USD 32 million).
2003 -- Protestors storm the Kuwaiti embassy in Tripoli. Kuwait held the Libyan authorities fully responsible for the incident and demanded that the Libyan charge d'affaires in Kuwait be withdrawn and Libya's diplomatic representation be lowered.
2004 -- Kuwait inked an agreement for establishing a regional bureau for the United Nations Human Settlements Programme, UN-Habitat, based in Kuwait.
2008 -- The Central Bank of Kuwait made basic amendments for regulations of consumer loans, lowering profit margin above the discount rate, where the monthly installment should not exceed 40 percent of the net payment for workers and 30 percent for retirees with a constant interest to be revised every five years.
2011 -- Kuwait Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah inaugurates kiosk of the Great Sheikh Mubarak that was a headquarters for the legislative court in 1934 and the main postal office in 1942. It had also harbored the first pharmacy and photography studio.
2014 -- The first international police conference was held under aegis of the International Police Association and Kuwait Amir, with participation of delegations from 50 states and international organizations.
2016 -- Kuwait General Administration for Customs inked an agreement with the Global Clearing House company to install state-of-art equipment at border exits. (end) rk
