KUWAIT, Feb 23 (KUNA) -- 1921 -- The ninth Amir of Kuwait, Sheikh Salem Al-Mubarak Al-Sabah, passes away at age 57. His era, which began in 1917, was known for its security and peace. The customs fees dropped by four percent during Sheikh Salem Al-Mubarak's rule, leading to flourishing commercial activities for the people of Kuwait. Sheikh Salem was known for piety and levelheadedness.
1961 -- Amir decree exempts government from legal fees.
1980 -- Amir decree is issued amending the agreement for establishing the Arab Petroleum Services Company, which was approved by the Organization of Arab Petroleum Exporting Countries (OAPEC) in Kuwait on December 4, 1979.
1981 -- Parliamentary elections for the fifth legislative term are held, with 477 nominees and 42,008 voters.
1983 -- Dar Al-Athar Al-Islamiyah, which displays a large collection of rare Islamic art pieces owned by Sheikh Nasser Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, is inaugurated.
1986 -- Kuwait's Amir Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah inaugurates the new headquarters of the National Assembly.
1992 -- An inaugural ceremony is held for exportation of the first shipment of liquefied gas.
1999 -- Al-Arabi football team wins the Sixth Crown Prince Championship.
2005 -- Then Prime Minister, Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, inaugurates the new oil pier of Kuwait National Petroleum Company in Al-Ahmadi refinery. Construction of the mega project, the largest in the Middle East, cost KD 100 million. It could accommodate giant oil tankers with cargo-bearing capacity of 350,000 tons.
2011 -- His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah opens 360 mall in Al-Zahra area.
2016 -- Kuwait science center acquired (ISO 9001) for quality management.
2018 -- George Town University appoints Kuwaiti Cancer Tumors Expert Dr. Waddah Al-Rifai, as head of the region for tumors surgeries. (end) gta
