KUWAIT, Jan 23 -- 1899 -- The Anglo-Kuwaiti Agreement is signed during the reign of Sheikh Mubarak Al-Sabah, the seventh ruler of Kuwait, making Kuwait a British protectorate. The aim of the agreement is to preserve Kuwait's independence and sovereignty.
1963 -- Elections for the first legislative council take place and the first National Assembly elected in implementation of the constitution, which issued on November 11, 1962. Over 200 nominees competed for the seats and Abdul-Aziz Hamad Al-Saqer was elected as the National Assembly Speaker.
1971 -- The MP representing Salmiya, Ali Thunayan Al-Utheyna, passes away.
1971 -- Elections are held for the third legislative session with 180 nominees competing for the seats. Khalid Saleh Al-Ghunaim was elected as National Assembly Speaker.
1972 -- An Amiri decree is issued over Kuwait Municipality becoming a member of the Arab Towns Organization agreed upon by the conference held in Kuwait in March 1967.
2001 -- The Dickson House is inaugurated as a cultural center.
2011 -- Kuwait Oil Company wins best oil project for the previous year, honored by Oil and Gas Middle East magazine, the project was the development of the northern Oil fields.
2013 -- National Assembly session votes in favor of law 25/2012 regarding public companies laws. (end) gta
