KUWAIT, Aug 19 (KUNA) --

1961 -- Kuwait Amir Sheikh Abdullah Al-Salem Al-Sabah signs a decree to establish a Department of Foreign Affairs and appointed Sheikh Sabah Al-Salem Al-Sabah as its head.
1995 -- Kuwaiti First Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah inaugurates Aqua Park located next to Kuwait Towers. The KD-three-million Aqua Park is the first in the Gulf region and built over 60,000 square meters with more than 14 games.
1996 -- Kuwait Amir Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah signs a law instructing the government to establish at least one shareholding company to provide mobile telecommunication services.
1998 -- Kuwait Amir Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah signs a decree appointing Mohammad Ahmad Al-Ojairi as Board Chairman and Director General of Kuwait News Agency (KUNA).
2003 -- Kuwait Amir Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah signs a decree forming a committee tasked with the mission of the Municipal Council.
2006 -- Ali Abdullatif Al-Jassar, a renowned religious and social figure, passes away at age of 84. The deceased was among the first to join Kuwait TV in 1961 to present a weekly religious program. He also chaired the Central Tenders Committee.
2009 -- Kuwait Ministry of Health announces the first death of a citizen due to the swine flu.
2013 -- State of Kuwait celebrates the international humanitarian work day, held under the theme "the world needs more humanity." 2014 -- Boubyan Bank launches a service enabling clients to withdraw money from ATMs by their civil ID, the first-of-a-kind service in the Middle East.
2020 -- The National Assembly (parliament) passes four draft laws on labor rights, protection from domestic violence, publications and future funds.
2021 -- Kuwait grants Turkiye six fire vehicles with complete equipment to fight all sorts of fire. (end) mt
