KUWAIT, Aug 19 (KUNA) -- 1961 -- The Amir Sheikh Abdullah Al-Salem Al-Sabah issues decree establishing the Foreign Department, entrusted with overseeing Kuwait's foreign relations.
1994 -- The temperature in Kuwait City records 51 degrees centigrade, the highest recorded in the world.
1995 -- First Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, inaugurates Aqua Park, Kuwait's first water park established by several private companies in cooperation with the Touristic Enterprises Company.
1996 -- The Amir Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah issues law establishing a telecommunications company, of which 75 percent of shares were floated for public subscription.
1998 -- The Amir Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah issues decree appointing Mohammad Al-Ujairi as Kuwait News Agency's Chairman and Director General.
2000 -- Kuwait wins the Sixth GCC Karate Cup after clinching 23 medals (14 gold, five silver and four bronze).
