1954 -- The Amir Sheikh Abdullah Al-Salem Al-Sabah issues a decision to form a committee tasked with widespread reforms in the country. It operated directly under his supervision. The committee began its role in July by forming the State Audit Bureau in addition to issuing an official publication, including all state functions and public statements.
1990 -- Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah made a response to the Arab League in a letter, after a border dispute with Iraq. Kuwait accused Iraq of continuously attempting to extract oil from its territories.
1992 -- Ministry of Interior announces apprehension of a terror cell, operating under umbrella of the Iraqi intelligence. The terrorists carried out a number of crimes in Kuwait aimed at destabilizing the country.
1998 -- First execution was carried out of two Iranian nationals, convicted of possession and sale of illegal drugs. The decision was carried out after a law in this respect had been amended, earlier the same year.
2000 -- Locally renowned poet Sulaiman Al-Huwaidi passes away at age 73.
2003 -- The Amir Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah attends launch of the 10th legislative term of National Assembly (the Parliament). The congregation of MPs elected Jassem Al-Kharafi as their Speaker and Meshari Al-Anjeri as his Deputy.
2005 -- Kuwait and Turkey sign a security pact, aimed at exchanging information and combining efforts for combatting terrorism, drug smuggling and organized crime.
2012 -- His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah forms a new government. It was headed by His Highness the Prime Minister Sheikh Jaber Al-Mubarak Al-Hamad Al-Sabah.
2012 -- The Kuwaiti national team won the 22nd GCC water sports tournament. The team snatched 12 medals, of which 10 were gold.
2016 -- Kuwait and the European External Action Service (EEAS) sign accord to bolster cooperation. (end) nhq
