KUWAIT, March 19 (KUNA) -- 1900 -- The Russian gunboat, Gilyak, with many naval troops on board, docked at a Kuwaiti port. His Highness the Amir Sheikh Mubarak Al-Sabah welcomed the navy men.
1954 -- Kuwait Airways Corporation (KAC) celebrated the landing of its first aircraft, a Dakota DC-3 named Kazma, at the old airport. The facility was located in the region, now called Abdullah Al-Salem and Nuzha districts.
1970 -- His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Salem Al-Sabah issued an Amiri Decree, annulling a law issued on May 14, 1964, on establishment of the "Public Authority for the Management of Al-Shuaiba Industrial Zone" and replacing it with an independent body named the "Shuaiba Public Authority". This came under supervision of the Ministry of Oil and the Ministry of Finance.
1970 -- The State of Kuwait established diplomatic ties with Yemen at the ambassadorial level.
1976 -- His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Salem Al-Sabah issued law number 10 of 1976 to transfer the rights of BP (Kuwait) Ltd. and the Gulf Kuwait Company to the State of Kuwait.
1976 -- His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Salem Al-Sabah issued Law 13, enforcing conscription from March 18, 1978.
1977 -- His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Salem Al-Sabah returned home after undergoing medical treatment in London during a trip that lasted for four months. Thousands of citizens greeted him upon his arrival at Kuwait Airport.
1980 -- The ice-skating ring, the first of its kind in Kuwait and the Middle East, was inaugurated. The Olympic-size ring is 1,800 square meters, with a capacity to seat 1,600 spectators.
1982 -- Failaka Resort was inaugurated, boasting an area of five million square meters, with 472 chalets.
1998 -- Kuwait Anti-Smoking and Cancer Society held its first conference on role of religious scholars and family in protecting youth from drug use.
1988 -- Qadsiya won Cup of His Highness the Crown Prince in the fifth tournament, beating Al-Salmiya 1-0 in the championship final match.
1999 -- Kuwaiti women took part for the first time in cooperative union society elections.
2008 -- His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah addressed the Kuwaiti people dissolving the parliament for sake of protecting the homeland against "irresponsible acts." 2009 -- His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah issued an Amiri Decree, accepting resignation of His Highness Prime Minister Sheikh Nasser Al-Mohammad Al-Sabah and his Cabinet.
2015 -- Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development (KFAED) signed a KD 6.5 million accord with Uzbekistan to finance exporting and installing medical equipment.
2015 -- Deputy Premier and Interior Minister Sheikh Mohammad Al-Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah issued a resolution for establishing the Environment Police. (end) mb
