KUWAIT, Jan 19 (KUNA) --

1969 -- The National Union of Kuwait Students (NUKS) held first meeting of its General Assembly and elected nine Administrative Authority members.
1991 -- Kuwait Amir Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah gave a speech marking the start of combat operations to liberate the State of Kuwait from the occupation of Iraq. He said signs of victory started to appear and the justice was diminishing darkness and defeat the tyranny.
1999 -- Kuwait became an observer in the Conference for the Reduction and Limination of Armanents, held in Geneva.
2002 -- Abdulaziz Hussain Library opened in Mishref Area. It contained books, periodicals, manuscripts and documentaries.
2009 -- Kuwait Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah announced, at opening of the Arab Economic, Development and Social summit, a pledge of USD 500 million to finance development projects in Arab countries.
2009 -- Kuwait Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah announced, at opening of the Arab Economic, Development and Social summit, a USD 34 million donation for UNRWA.
2014 -- Arab Inter-Parliamentary Union named Kuwait National Assembly Speaker Marzouq Al-Ghanim as president.
2014 -- The Asian Olympic Council awarded Khaled Ahmad Al-Ahmad and Yusuf Al-Shaheen Al-Ghanim, of Kuwait, the Council's order in recognition of their role in the establishment of the youth and sport movement in Kuwait.
2020 -- Former Information Ministry Undersecretary Saadoun Al-Jassem passed away at 88.
2021 -- Kuwait Ministry of Health said two citizens who came from Britain were infected with a new Covid-19 variant. (end) bs
