KUWAIT, Oct 18 (KUNA) -- 1949 -- The Amir Sheikh Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah inaugurated the Amiri Hospital, situated on the Arab Gulf Road. The hospital housed, at that time, 45 beds and operating rooms, a laboratory and a pharmacy. The hospital had been expanded several times, and it had been fully rebuilt in 1984.
1958 -- Kuwait hosted the 13th conference of regional offices for boycotting Israel with representatives from Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Sudan, the United Arab Republic (Egypt and Syria), Lebanon, and Libya attending.
1986 -- The Amir Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah issued a decree assigning the Public Ports Authority to operate Al-Shuaiba Port.
1995 -- Kra' Al-Marou oil well No.1 was discovered in western Kuwait.
1997 -- Kuwait Motors Sports Club was proclaimed.
1999 -- Ghiras, the national campaign to spread awareness of drugs, was established.
2005 -- National Bank of Kuwait (NBK) inaugurated its representation office in Shanghai, China. It was the first Arab bank to open an office in the Asian nation.
2008 -- Dr. Khaled Al-Sabti of Al-Bahar Eye Center earned a patent for using an endoscope for removing cataract from the cornea without the need for organ implants.
2010 -- Arab ministers of finance adopted, at a meeting held in Kuwait, executive laws of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah's principles on supporting small and medium enterprises in the Arab world, at a USD 1.2 billion capital.
2010 -- Kuwait Television, participating in Jordan's media festival, won three awards for successful programs.
2010 -- Dasman Diabetes Institute signed a MoU with the Scottish university, Dundee, to improve health services in the country.
2010 -- Kuwaiti Wushu Kung Fu champions won eight medals, including a gold one, in the international Kung Fu championship hosted by Turkey.
2016 -- Kuwaiti leadership honored athlete Ahmad Al-Mutairi for winning a gold medal in the wheelchair race of the 2016 2016 Summer Paralympics held in Rio De Janeiro. (end) gta
