KUWAIT, March 18 (KUNA) -- 1961 -- "Al Kuwait" monthly magazine for cultural affairs was published.
1962 -- "Saqr Quraish" play, performed by the Arab Theatre Troupe, was displayed. Main actors were Saad Al-Faraj, Khaled Al-Nifeesi, Abdulhussein Abdulredha, Mariam Al-Saleh and Mariam Al-Ghadban.
1964 -- The Petroleum Industries Company established Kuwait Chemical Fertilizers company with BP and Gulf companies as partners, with each having 20 percent of stocks. In 1973, the Petroleum Industries Company bought the stakes of the two partners and on January 20, 1975, Kuwait Chemical Fertilizers merged with it.
1975 -- The rate of the Kuwaiti dinar was pegged to a balanced basket of major currencies, in a move that reflects Kuwait's global commercial and financial ties.
1976 -- The National Assembly approves an agreement, signed between the Kuwaiti government and Kuwaiti Oil Company on December 1, 1975, according to which the state becomes the owner of the company.
1978 -- The law on military conscription came into effect.
1988 -- Under the auspices of late Amir Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, the new headquarters of Kuwait Foundation for the Advancement of Sciences was inaugurated. The foundation, chaired by the Amir, was established in December 1976.
1993 -- The international committee tasked with demarcating the Kuwaiti-Iraqi border finalizes a study on the marine borderline.
1996 -- The American Biographies Foundation selects Kuwait University Rector Dr. Fayza Al-Kharafi as the prominent personality of 1995.
2000 -- Theatre artist and writer Hussein Al-Saleh passes away at the age of 69.
2009 -- His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah issues decree dissolving the National Assembly in line with Provision 107 of the Constitution. The Amir calls for new parliamentary elections. (end) hb
