KUWAIT, March 18 (KUNA) -- 1961 -- "AlآKuwait" monthly magazine for cultural affairs was published.
1962 -- "Saqr Quraish" play, performed by the Arab Theatre Troupe was displayed. Main actors are Saad Al-Faraj, Khaled AlآNifeesi, Abdulhussein Abdulredha, Mariam AlآSaleh and Mariam AlآGhadban.
1964 -- The Petroleum Industries Company established Kuwait Chemical Fertilizers company with BP and Gulf companies as partners, with each having 20 percent of stocks. In 1973, the Petroleum Industries Company bought the stakes of the two partners and on January 20, 1975, Kuwait Chemical Fertilizers was merged with it.
1975 -- The rate of the Kuwaiti dinar was pegged to a balanced basket of major currencies, in a move that reflects Kuwait's commercial and financial ties with the outside world.
1976 -- The National Assembly approves an agreement, signed between the Kuwaiti government and Kuwaiti Oil Company on December 1, 1975, according to which the state becomes the owner of the company.
1978 -- The law on military conscription came into effect.
1988 -- Under the auspices of the Amir, Sheikh Jaber AlآAhmad AlآSabah, the new headquarters of Kuwait Foundation for Advancement of Sciences was inaugurated. The foundation, chaired by the Amir, was established in December 1976.

2000 -- Theatrical artist and writer Hussein AlآSaleh passes away at the age of 69.
2008 -- Kuwaiti rider Turki AlآMutairi, competing on his horse "Cruise" wins King Abdullah Bin Abdulaziz Cup.
2009 -- His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah AlآAhmad Al-Jaber AlآSabah issues decree dissolving the National Assembly in line with Provision 107 of the Kuwaiti Constitution. The Amir calls for new parliamentary elections. (end) hb
