KUWAIT, Aug 17 (KUNA) -- 1990 -- US President George Bush orders American warships to enforce UN commercial sanctions against Iraq and using force, if necessary, to stop marine exports and imports from Iraq and (occupied) Kuwait.
1996 -- Kuwait Oil Company (KOC) exhibition headquarters, destroyed during the Iraqi invasion, re-opened under sponsorship of Oil Minister Dr. Abdulmohsin Al-Medej after reconstruction.
2002 -- UNESCO Executive Board adopts the project of Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah Award for Research and Training for educating the mentally disabled. The USD-half-million award is granted once every two years for an Arab and a non-Arab.
2002 -- Huge fire breaks out at Kuwait International Airport, halting aviation for a short period.
2009 -- Equate petrochemicals' company begins commercial operation of ethyl benzene and styrene plant, affiliated to Kuwait Styrene Company, with a productivity reaching 450,000 metric tons per year. (end) hb
