KUWAIT, July 17 (KUNA) -- 1971 -- His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Salem Al-Sabah issued decree for the establishment of medical assistant fund in the Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs.
1973 -- An Amiri Decree was issued to establish the National Council for Culture, Arts, and Letters (NCCAL).
1974 -- Decree 25 of 1974 issued to reorganize the Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development, as Article II stated that the purpose of the fund is to help Arab countries and developing countries in developing their economies, and to provide loans for the implementation of development programs in accordance with the mechanism determined by the Prime Minister.
1977 -- Amiri Decree 84 for the year 1977 is issued, to annex the general directorate of Al-Shuaibah area to the Ministry of Commerce and Industry.
1979 -- Korean Embassy was opened in Kuwait. The Korean Ambassador in March 1980, presented his credentials to the Amir, Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah as his country's first ambassador in Kuwait.
1990 -- In a fabricated dispute, Saddam Hussein accused the State of Kuwait and the United Arab Emirates of increasing the oil production ceiling which was specified by OPEC. Saddam Hussein threatened to use force over the issue.
1999 -- His Highness the Amir Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah inaugurated the first session of the ninth legislative term of the National Assembly during which he expressed his wishes to achieve unity. For the first time, MP Jasem Al-Kharafi was elected as the Speaker of the Parliament after obtaining 37 of the votes against 27 for his competitor MP Ahmed Al-Saadoun.
2002 -- According to the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), the State of Kuwait ranked first among Arab countries in terms of the level of human development.
2006 -- The National Assembly approved a draft law on re-specifying electoral districts to five instead of 25, and the change is effective as of the new legislative term.
2006 -- Parliament approved in a special session the draft law to stop deducting commuted portion of pension for life retroactively from the date of June 26, 2005.
2008 -- His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah issued decree 27 of 2008 on the exchange of financial support for all state employees and the private sector and assistance recipients, pensioners and those with special needs worth 50 dinars for those with salary of less than one thousand dinars.
2011 -- Kuwaiti and US military forces implemented a joint exercise within the framework of the joint defense agreement between the two countries. The exercise included the implementation of defense mechanisms at the tactical level.
2011 -- Cabinet approved a draft decree appointing Faisal Al-Jazzaf as Board Chairman of Directors and Director General of the Public Authority for Youth and Sports.(end) ag
