KUWAIT, Jan 17 (KUNA) -- 1962 -- The Amir, Sheikh Abdullah Al-Salem Al-Sabah issues an Amiri decree to form the first Cabinet in Kuwait's history. Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah is appointed Minister of Finance and Economy.
1974 -- Al-Watan, a weekly newspaper back then, starts publishing as a daily.
1981 -- Abdullah Al-Nouri, a leading religious preacher, writer and historian, passes away.
1984 -- Municipal Council elections were held.
1991 -- Coalition troops start air attacks against Iraqi troops in Kuwait and Iraq.
2001 -- Kuwait dismisses statements by Iraqi Deputy Premier Tareq Aziz and by Uday Saddam Hussein that Kuwait was part of Iraq, as blatant violation of UN resolution 833 relevant to demarcation of borders between the two countries.
2004 -- Kuwait's permanent representative to the UN, Ambassador Nabila Al-Mullah, presents her credentials, thus becoming the first female Muslim ambassador in the UN.
2005 -- Kuwait launches campaign against Rift Valley Fever.
2008 -- Minister of Finance Mustafa Al-Shimali announces that Umm Al-Maradim Island a customs office implementing laws and regulations.
2017 -- Kuwait signs the Declaration of the Asia Cooperation Dialogue. (end) gta
